DESCRIPTION:his November Oriana Setz brings a more modern approach to her usual acoustic indie folk set with the presence of a 5-piece band including synths\, a rock rhythm section\, Latin folk percussion and acoustic guitars. This unusual set-up certainly holds up to her unique voice and sense of fashion which\, added up\, creates a vibrant\, one-of-a-kind experience.\n\nOriana Setz combines Latin American folklore and Indie with reflective lyrics and eclectic and soothing vocals. The Ecuadorian modern-folk singer-songwriter is part of the Latinx alternative music movement called AlterLatino\, and in 2016 was awarded for her composition and singing skills. Her talent has been renowned by Forbes Magazine Mexico and other international media in places like Hollywood\, California\, New Zealand and other parts of the world.\n\nOriana studied with a full scholarship at Berklee College of Music\, where she graduated with honours in 2018 and then spent her time living and performing in America\, New Zealand and now the UK. Her music has been described as early Norah Jones and Fiona Apple. For fans of Birdy\, Florence and the Machine\, AURORA\, and AlterLatinxs singer-songwriters such as Natalia Lafourcade\, Jorge Drexler\, and Shakira in her beginnings.\n\nOriana Setz’s headline at Nice N Sleazy’s in Glasgow on 2 November 2023 will be supported by singer-songwriter Niamhy Mac from the Highlands and Mike McKenzie\, nominated for BBC Radio Scotland Songwriter of the Year.\nShe headlines Nice N Sleazy’s in Glasgow on 2 November 2023. Bas Jan features Serafina Steer\, Emma Smith on violin\, bass and electronics\, Rachel Horwood on drums and Charlie Stock on electric violin. Their debut album Yes I Jan was followed in 2018 with the release of the Instant Nostalgia EP also in\, shows around the UK and Europe\, and dates at festivals including Green Man\, Doune the Rabbit Hole and End of the Road. “Baby U Know marks a consolidation of Bas Jan as a four piece\,” says Serafina. “It was recorded at Cafe OTO in London over three day. Getting the Arts Council Funding and making the album represented a coming together out of the solitudes of 2020\, carving out the possibility of a future for the band at a time when Brexit and Everything cast all those things very much into doubt or\, at best\, made them a very low priority. The time constraints of having to finish the record before one of the band entered third trimester of pregnancy\, and with a winter lockdown pending\, probably added a rawness to these recordings. It’s kind of a pragmatically hopeful record.”
