DESCRIPTION:The songwriting partnership of Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg has faced serious challenges in recent years. Constant touring\, a label split\, creative frustrations\, and an unhealthy attachment strained both their collaboration and their friendship-intensified by the turbulence of their late teens and early twenties. Eventually\, they realized they needed to reconnect with their roots. Those roots lie in Atlanta\, Georgia-among forests\, DIY venues\, punk communities\, and Weinberg’s family basement-but also on the early internet. The band grew up on Tumblr and Reddit\, in digital spaces that fostered real-world connections through concerts and shared passions. During the pandemic\, they saw these spaces become commodified or disappear\, leaving a void for genuine community. From that void\, the Ugly Duckling Union was born.
