DESCRIPTION:University of Glasgow Medical Genetics and Genomics 2025 class fundraising team are organising a music event to raise funds for Rare Disease Day. Join us for a night of live music\, raffles️\, and great prizes to raise funds and awareness for the UKs Rare Disease Society! On the night\, there will be a mini raffle. If you wear stripes (or zebra print!)\, you will be automatically entered to win prizes\, such as band merch and free drinks!\nAll money from fundraising goes to Medics for Rare Diseases (M4RD). This UK Rare Disease Society educates medical professionals on rare diseases to improve diagnosis and support those with rare diseases. It raises awareness\, knowledge\, and advocacy for those affected by rare diseases. \nThere is also a main raffle\, for which you can purchase tickets online️. By entering\, you can win many prizes\, such as vouchers for Purple Cat Cafe\, The Craft Pottery\, baked goodies from Deans Delights\, and more. The winners will be announced after Rare Disease Day (28 February)️. \nThe bands:\nThe Cowards are a five-piece band from central Scotland. Known for their witty lyrics and angular sound\, they have an entirely DIY process\, recording and producing in-house. They have many influences\, chiefly Talking Heads\, The Doors and the Velvet Underground.\nSaint Sappho is an alternative/rock duo: “We both love 90s music – britpop and triphop has been really influential recently. Artists such as Moby\, Massive Attack\, The Verve and Portishead are some of our favourites. Its hard to pinpoint exactly what is the inspirational thing as it varies depending on what is going on in our lives at that time.”. \nMilkMaid Merchant is a solo project coined by Scottish artist Derry Creaney. Influenced by dreamy bedroom pop-esque soundscapes\, Derry began working on MilkMaid Merchant material himself back in 2017\, using things like Guitars\, synths\, tape machines and broken 4 track cassette recorders to his advantage.
